Electrical FAQs

When do I need a panel upgrade?+
You need a panel upgrade when you're adding high-draw loads (EV charger, hot tub, electric range upgrade), when breakers trip frequently under normal loads, when you have a 60A or 100A service in an older home with modern appliances, or when your electrician identifies undersized service during inspection.
How long does EV charger installation take?+
Most Level 2 installations take 3–5 hours for the electrical work. If a panel upgrade is also needed, plan for a full day. We schedule the permit inspection immediately after, which typically takes 1–2 weeks depending on Twin Falls city scheduling.
Is it safe to do my own electrical work in Idaho?+
Idaho allows limited homeowner electrical work, but it requires a permit and inspection for anything beyond basic fixture swaps. Unpermitted work can void home insurance and cause problems at resale. For anything involving the panel, 240V circuits, or new wiring runs — use a licensed electrician.
What's the difference between GFCI and AFCI protection?+
GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protects against shock from ground faults — required in wet areas like bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and outdoors. AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) protects against arc faults that cause house fires — required in bedrooms and living areas in modern code. We install both as required.
How much does an electrical safety inspection cost?+
Our full home electrical safety inspection is a flat $199. We cover the panel, all circuits, grounding system, GFCI/AFCI coverage, and visible wiring conditions. We provide a written report. If we find issues, you get a repair quote — there's no pressure to book additional work.
